2015 Mexican Vacation

Our Mexico trip feels like forever ago. (Let’s not talk about Montana yet, ok?) It was, what two months ago? July was two months ago, right? Right. Erm.

Back to it.

We went to Mexico in July for our annual beach-slash-birthday vacation. We didn’t actually go on our birthdays, but a little after, which was fine and was completely because we wanted to be in town for the 4th of July (which, turned out, was useless because it rained most of the day at home).

I did those nails myself, thankyouverymuch.

Last year we stayed at the Valentin Imperial Maya in beautiful Riviera Maya, Mexico. We were blown away by the resort, and when it came time to plan our vacation for this year, eventually realized we just wanted to go back. So we did!

Unfortunately, our trip this year wasn’t as amazing as last year’s (read all about it here, here, and here). The crowd at the resort was completely different. Last year, our fellow travelers were mostly couples, mostly older, and mostly returnees. The vibe was very relaxed, very classy, and very luxurious. If you wanted to party there was the main pool, but if you wanted quiet, the lazy river pool was your bet. We saw very few sloppy drunk people, and everyone was friendly and welcoming.

This year’s crowd was mostly younger, mostly groups, and mostly first-timers. The entire resort felt like one giant party – from the main pool to the lazy river pool to the restaurants, there were loud drunk people everywhere. We actually witnessed a couple fall asleep at the dinner table (after having a screaming match).

Despite the noise and constant feeling of being crowded, we tried to make the most of it. The food was still excellent, the service mostly good, and the resort is still beautiful. Less talk, more pictures.

We made it!

We made it! Believe it or not, we were BOTH excited.

My first (well, second after the champagne) drink at VIM this year. No idea what it was, but it was delicious.

Seaweed was pretty bad this year, but the beach was still gorgeous.

One of the bartenders from the golden pool happened to be working in the martini bar. She remembered me and brought me this beautiful coffee.

We decided to try all the tequilas. It was....fun? We made friends, but sadly I wasn't able to convince Jimmie to sing Aqua's Barbie Girl during Karaoke.

The tequila taste test winner. Yeah, I liked the bottle. But it actually was really really good. And I don't even really like tequila.

Seems I'm good at taking pictures of Coati butts. Remember last year's picture?

We didn’t have a terrible time, but both of us agreed that we’re ready to try somewhere else for our next vacation. And maybe even try something besides an all-inclusive, because really, once you’ve done that it’s not nearly as exciting the second time.

Have you been to any all-inclusive resorts? Which do you recommend? What should we do next summer?
