Book Bites: What I’m Reading Right Now (May 29, 2017)

bookbitesreadingrightnowWelcome to Book Bites, where you get a glimpse into my reading life! Here I chronicle what I’ve finished (and what you can expect reviews on soon!), what I’m reading right now, and what I’m reading next.

Happy Memorial Day! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend, and remembered why we celebrate. Barbecues are great and all, but don’t lose sight of what today really means.

Ok, I’m off my soapbox! Back to books. I’m still behind in my reading. Not sure why, but I just can’t get into anything! Guess that means I need to read a whole bunch of cozy mysteries, right? Seriously, how do you guys deal with a reading slump?

The only thing I finished this week was The Hate U Give, and even then, it was only because it was our book club book, and book club meets tomorrow. Just couldn’t get into it! I don’t think that’s the book’s fault, though, and I’m looking forward to the discussion tomorrow night. Since I’m way behind on posts, you’ll probably see that review later this week.

Book Bites: What I’m Reading Right Now (May 22, 2017)

bookbitesreadingrightnowWelcome to Book Bites, where you get a glimpse into my reading life! Here I chronicle what I’ve finished (and what you can expect reviews on soon!), what I’m reading right now, and what I’m reading next.

I’ve managed to get a little more reading in lately! I ended up taking a couple of days off from work and just used the time to veg and relax. It was much needed. I read a couple of light fluff reads, and started Beartown finally. It’s different from Backman’s other books -just as good, just not as light or whimsical.

I’m having a terrible time getting into Strange the Dreamer, so I decided to put that one on hold for now. I’ve also paused on Gone with the Wind, simply because I want to read it all at once, and I need to knock out a couple other books first. Like the Book Club book and the rest of my Netgalley queue…though I’m happy to report I’ve got my ratio up to 74%, which is pretty stinkin’ good.

Oh, and good news – I passed my test! I’m now a certified project manager. I was convinced I’d failed – so convinced in fact, that I didn’t bother reviewing any of my answers. I was so fed up by the end of the test that I just hit submit. Imagine my surprise when the computer flashed “CONGRATULATIONS ON PASSING YOUR PMP EXAM” up on the screen. I’m pretty sure I jerked back, my mouth dropped open, and I probably made a little noise of disbelief.

Book Bites: What I’m Reading Right Now (May 8, 2017)

bookbitesreadingrightnowWelcome to Book Bites, where you get a glimpse into my reading life! Here I chronicle what I’ve finished (and what you can expect reviews on soon!), what I’m reading right now, and what I’m reading next.

By now, I feel like I’m on repeat – I didn’t read much! I warned you this would happen, didn’t I?

I take my certification test on the 15th, and I more or less think I’m ready. Ish? I’d better be. Failing this test would be super embarrassing, not to mention a pain in the neck.

We just booked a trip back to Mexico for August, and I’m BEYOND EXCITED. We’re heading back to Royalton Riviera Cancun since we loved it so much the first time. Actually that reminds me, I need to finish the newest Resort Showdown post. I’ll try to get that up before we go again? Although if I don’t, it’ll give me a chance to take more pictures…

I finished two books this week, Joyful Trouble and Summer at the Dog & Duck (barely). I’ve been back in the office so I did listen to The Bear and the Nightingale a few times, but I didn’t even pick up any of the others, including Beartown. I’m seriously in a reading slump! One more week until things (hopefully) get back to normal.

Book Bites: What I’m Reading Right Now (May 1, 2017)

bookbitesreadingrightnowWelcome to Book Bites, where you get a glimpse into my reading life! Here I chronicle what I’ve finished (and what you can expect reviews on soon!), what I’m reading right now, and what I’m reading next.

It was another slow reading week. I’ll be happy when these next few weeks are over and life can get back to normal! I’m also still fighting with WordPress, because I did something stupid and used a redirect on my old site – which I shouldn’t have done. And now I can’t make it stop. Oy vey.

The folks at UpNature were kind enough to send me Lemongrass Oil to review.

In other exciting news, I finally got a bottle of Lemongrass Oil, so we can use something besides sandalwood or lavender in our diffuser at night. Don’t get me wrong, I love both of those, but I’m a little over them at the moment. This one is from UpNature and the bottle is HUGE. It smells amazing and word is, it’ll help keep mosquitoes away. Wish I’d had it a couple nights ago when I woke up with an enormous bug bite on my leg. We’re camping in a couple of weeks, so I’ll try it then!

Anyway, I didn’t finish anything this week. BUT. I read on Gone With the Wind, Strange the Dreamer, The River of Kings, and Summer at the Dog and Duck. I’ve been working from home with the pup, so The Bear and the Nightingale is on hold (I’m listening to it, and typically only on my commute). My NetGalley stack continues to grow, though I’m trying to be more selective. I’m actually really interested in everything I’ve got in the backlog, so that’s a win! But most exciting of all, I got Fredrick Backman’s newest, Beartown, and I CAN’T WAIT to read it. Seriously, I’m practically a Backman fangirl, and if you’ve never read him I’ll pester you until you do.

It was another slow week for me. I’m still studying for my Project Management certification (I take the test mid-May). But more than that, my pup had surgery and then had minor complications. She’s doing well now, but it was a stressful week! She’s a cutie though.

I only finished one book this week, but made more progress on a bunch of others. I’m still working on Gone With the Wind and The Bear and the Nightingale, slowly but surely, and I finally started Strange the Dreamer. I also picked up The River of Kings, which I can already tell is going to be a wonderful book. It’s the kind you savor. And no surprise, my Next Up stash is growing!

Book Bites: What I’m Reading Right Now (April 17, 2017)

Welcome to Book Bites, where you get a glimpse into my reading life! Here I chronicle what I’ve finished (and what you can expect reviews on soon!), what I’m reading right now, and what I’m reading next.

It was a slow week for me reading-wise. I spent a lot of time working on the launch of my new site (you’re here now!!) and studying for my Project Management certification. I’m testing around 70% at the moment, with a few weeks left before the exam, so it’s crunch time. I was lucky to get our Book Club book read!

I finished 2 books this week, and made slow progress on 4 others. Reviews for The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry and Winter at the Dog & Duck should be up soon. I’m running about 3 weeks behind on reviews right now!

I’m still working on Gone With the Wind and The Bear and the Nightingale, slowly but surely, and I’ve got Strange the Dreamer I want to get to. My library loan for Salt to the Sea expired again, and I still haven’t made it more than a couple pages in Difficult Women, but that’s on my to-do list this week. Otherwise my Next Up stash hasn’t changed too much, though it’s about to – I’ve got a handful of blog tours on deck.

And, in case you missed the announcement, I’m now She’s All Booked! Sorry for any confusion in the switch from Fearless Creative, and hopefully everyone is still subscribed to posts. There’s a bit of a learning curve with WordPress, so bear with me! I’ll get it sorted out sooner or later!

Book Bites: April 10

Welcome to Book Bites, where you get a glimpse into my reading life! This past week I made another dent in my pile, knocking out a short story collection, a YA that I’ve had on my nightstand half-finished for nearly two months, a blog tour book, and a library loan. I abandoned one that won’t be getting a review because I had such strong negative feelings about it that it’s not fair to the author – I won’t be able to be constructive. I’m still working on Gone With the Wind (enjoying it!!), more short stories, yet another library loan, and a 17-hour audio book.

This week, I need to get started on our Book Club book, and I just got Strange the Dreamer, which I’m soooo excited about. And my Netgalley queue is growing because I simply can’t stay away!!

Book Bites: April 3

It’s time for another Book Bites post! I picked up a new audiobook this past week, and flew through it (Norse Mythology), as well as read a cute cozy. I’m still working my way through a couple of short story/essay collections, two YA that I keep having to renew from the library, and I started another book that’s been on my backlist for years. Expect to see Gone With the Wind on here for a while, since it’s 1000+ pages!

Book Bites: March 27

Welcome to the first Book Bites post! I’m currently studying to take a professional certification, so my reading has been a little limited. Rather than skipping a day, I thought I’d participate in some of the weekly meetups all the wonderful book bloggers host!

First up is It’s Monday! What are you reading! hosted by Kathryn over at the Book Date. It’s a way to share what you’ve just read, are currently reading, and are reading next.

This will give you an idea of some of the reviews you can expect in the somewhat near future, but the “Next Up” section doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll read it *next* – just that it’s on my stack! So, some of those might stay under Next Up for a while, new books may jump in, etc. etc. Just giving you a heads up. Nothing is set in stone here.

I’ll keep this going until my reading schedule frees up, or if it’s fun, I may keep it going longer. We’ll just have to see!
