What I’m reading, where I’m traveling, what I’m loving – updates every week!

Man, guys, I’ve read some great books lately. Books I’m excited to share with you, and books I never would have read if not for Haunting October. The older I get, the more I enjoy Halloween. I’m not sure if it’s the atmosphere or the fact that it means we’re closer to Christmas, but it’s starting to get a lot more fun.

This year, I went as a peacock. I made my costume, and it was so much fun. I loved the way it turned out! Jimmie was a turkey because I found out last week that turkeys and peacocks hate each other, and it seemed fitting. Anyone else have an awesome costume for Halloween?peacock costume

I’ve been a little behind on both my blog and my reading, so bear with me. I finally finished listening to American War. I tried listening to This is Where It Ends, but the narration was so horrific and the characters so ridiculous that I gave up after three chapters. Then I picked up The Alice Network and now all I want to do is drive places so I can listen to it. I also broke down and bought the new Stephen King, but man, I’m struggling with it. Not sure if it’s the book or my frame of mind, so I’m not ready to abandon it yet, but it’s a brick.

Other than that, I’m starting to think ahead to December and whether I want to read all sorts of cozy books for cozy weather. If you have any suggestions, send them my way!

Have a lovely week, friends!

Bookings: October 16, 2017

Whoops. I missed a few Bookings posts because I got distracted and forgot to create them. That’s the problem with having Bookings on Monday – it’s a great way to start the week, but it also doesn’t leave much room for laziness!

We hit up a beer festival last weekend, had a great time as usual. We’ve also been working around the house, cleaning out junk and ripping out walls. Fun times. I’m not really convinced we need to put the walls back on, but Jimmie feels otherwise. We’ll see who wins this argument.

I’ve been in a book slump, though – just haven’t felt much like reading. (Even though I killed it this weekend!) It’s killing my Haunting October plans. I didn’t even read the Book Club book this month. It was supposed to be Never Let Me Go (timely, since Kazuo Ishiguro just won the Nobel Prize. Nothing really against the book, I just couldn’t get into it. Since I didn’t read it, our book club consisted of the two who did read it telling me the plot, and needless to say, we didn’t have much discussion. So, no book club post this month, but next month we’re reading short stories from Stephen King’s Everything’s Eventual, so that should be fun.

I’ve got tons of ideas brewing about for posts that don’t involve reviewing books so that’s a nice break for all of us. And, I’m having a blast with She’s All Booked on Facebook so if you’re not following there, get on it! Lots of fun stuff and good conversations.

Have a lovely week, friends!

BookingsAnyone else having a hard time believing it’s practically October? That’s not just me, right? I’d better finish my wrap/shawl/scarf thingie, or I’m never going to get to wear it.

First things first, who watched the DWTS premier last week??? I think it’s a pretty good cast, and it’s going to be a tough competition! Loved seeing Mark back.

We headed to Atlanta this past weekend to see Misterwives, Smallpools, and Vinyl Theater in concert. Atlanta isn’t my favorite place, but we had a good time, and the show was amazeballs. We also toured the World of Coca-Cola.

Despite the trip, I was able to get a lot of blogging done over the weekend, and great news – a Mexico post is in the pipeline! I think it’s scheduled for next week, so just a little longer to wait. Thanks for being so patient!

BookingsOh my goodness, I’m ready for Fall. Bring me all the sweaters. Last week I mentioned I made my first ThredUp purchase. It arrived, and the verdict is in: I’m a fan. I ordered two sweaters, a wool skirt, and a button up, for a whopping $45. Everything fit (I only shopped brands I was aware of, and I paid attention to the measurements), and I liked 3 of the 4 items. The skirt was most definitely NOT the color listed on the website – it said it was grey, and it’s definitely tan – but I can deal with that. I’ll send the one shirt back and get store credit for something else. It’s definitely a site to search when you have an item in mind, otherwise it’s a little overwhelming. Use my link and you’ll get a $10 credit to spend!

This past week I traveled to Charleston, WV, for work. Work trips are fun because they give you a chance to scope out a place without a commitment – you have to be there anyway, so you might as well enjoy it. I’m not sure Charleston is a place I’d make a point to go back to, but I enjoyed my time there. I’ll try to get some pictures up for you soon. And while I’m at it, Mexico posts. Oops.

In other news, our septic tank backed up (again) last weekend, so we’ve been dealing with that. We’re working with contractors to repair the damage. It’s a blessing in disguise, actually – we needed to reno the basement, and now we’re sort of forced to.

Tonight is the season premier of Dancing with the Stars, and I’m beyond excited. Anyone else tuning in?

BookingsLast week was busy! My mom had cataract surgery (it went well!), and I lost Jimmie to Destiny 2. (In all seriousness, he’s been enjoying the game and is not actually ignoring me.) We drafted our Fantasy Football team – we had 14th pick out of 14 teams, so it was a challenge. I think we’ve got a decent team, if not a breakout one. We actually watched the Green Bay/Seahawks game last night and it gave me a near heart attack.

I went to a painting class Friday night, taught by a friend of mine, and then spent the rest of the weekend dealing with septic and plumbing issues, and crafting and blogging and playing around with Adobe Spark. I’ve been working on a knit shawl for months, and I’m determined to finish it so I can wear it this Fall. It’s not difficult, I’m just a super slow knitter. Speaking of Fall, I’m so ready for it. I’m a Summer girl through and through, but it’s been a loooong summer, and I’m ready for some cooler weather.

I didn’t end up ordering a desk for my craft room/office, but I did order a bunch of clothes with all the Labor Day sales. I made my first ThredUp purchase, and I’m really excited to see how that turns out.

You’re going to see a new review format starting this week, with Dark Matter on Wednesday. Let me know if you like it – I’m still torn! And lastly, don’t forget to like She’s All Booked over on Facebook for more book goodies and fun travel news!

Book Bites is now Bookings! I had an epiphany late one night last week and realized even I was bored with the Book Bites format. It felt….repetitive and boring. And, part of me feels like we’re not really getting a chance to connect, and that’s no fun. So expect some changes in the next few weeks and months!

Speaking of connecting, if you’re over on Facebook make sure you’ve followed She’s All Booked! I’m still learning how to do social media “right,” but there’s all sorts of fun things there that won’t make it onto the blog. Book news, things I’m excited about, fun pictures of my dogs…you know, the usual!

I hope you’re all having a lovely Labor Day weekend, and hopefully are enjoying a break from the daily grind! We’ve had a quiet but relaxing few days, full of good food, quality time, and of course, lots of reading. This week is another busy one, with Book Club tomorrow night, and a painting class on Friday. Jimmie’s also super excited because Destiny 2 comes out this week, so I’ll be a video game widow for a while. Not that I’m complaining – just means more time to read, knit, sleep, and other thrilling things!

I’m also browsing around online for office/craft room furniture so I’ll finally have a dedicated blogging/painting/quilting/tyedying/escaping space. I’ve had a vision for the room for about two years, just haven’t found the time to make it happen. Hopefully soon I’ll have pictures to show you!

With that, here’s what’s happening.

Book Bites: What I’m Reading Right Now (August 28, 2017)

bookbitesreadingrightnowWelcome to Book Bites, where you get a glimpse into my reading life! Here I chronicle what I’ve finished (and what you can expect reviews on soon!), what I’m reading right now, and what I’m reading next.

Where does the time go? I can’t believe it’s practically September already. This weekend I switched out my summer decor for fall decor. I also spotted some Sam Adams Oktoberfest in the grocery store, so it looks like fall is pretty much here. Pumpkin lovers, rejoice.

Reading has been a little slow this week, and will probably continue to lag. My travel schedule is a bit nuts through September. I’m looking forward to some downtime in October.

In other exciting news, last week’s solar eclipse was incredible. We were lucky enough to have over 2 minutes of totality. It was so beautiful that I want to go see another one.

bookbitesreadingrightnowWelcome to Book Bites, where you get a glimpse into my reading life! Here I chronicle what I’ve finished (and what you can expect reviews on soon!), what I’m reading right now, and what I’m reading next.

This time last week, I was in Mexico! How can the trip already be over?! We had a lovely time, with absolutely gorgeous weather. Expect a handful of vacation-related posts in the coming weeks. I’ll go ahead and spoil it though, and admit I didn’t take pictures of everything I ate and drank…so my “drinks to order” post might be a little smaller than originally planned!

Oh, and anyone else excited about today’s eclipse?

I read two books on the trip, which was pretty good considering. I also finally finished American Gods before I left – that review will be up later this week. Not sure what my next audiobook will be yet. Any suggestions?

bookbitesreadingrightnowWelcome to Book Bites, where you get a glimpse into my reading life! Here I chronicle what I’ve finished (and what you can expect reviews on soon!), what I’m reading right now, and what I’m reading next.

I know, I know. I’ve been slacking on the blogging front. Work has been absolutely nuts (which is a good thing!) and I’ve been absolutely exhausted. I haven’t read much, so there weren’t too many posts to update. And honestly, I just couldn’t bring myself to get on the computer at home after staring at it all day at work!

That’s all about to change though, since this time next week we’ll be back in Mexico! We are both so incredibly excited. The pups, not so much.

I’ve still got a bunch of travel-related posts I’m working on, as well as a few book reviews and blog tours. Slowly but surely, you’ll start seeing more posts! Thanks for hanging in with me even though I’ve been a little spotty lately!

On the What I’m Reading Right Now front, I’m STILL working through American Gods. It’s like 19 hours long, and I think I’m about 3/4 of the way through it. It’s definitely a commitment I should have saved for a long car ride, but I’m enjoying it.

Book Bites: What I’m Reading Right Now (July 3, 2017)

bookbitesreadingrightnowWelcome to Book Bites, where you get a glimpse into my reading life! Here I chronicle what I’ve finished (and what you can expect reviews on soon!), what I’m reading right now, and what I’m reading next.

Happy (early) 4th of July! I love this holiday, not in part because it’s just a couple of days before my birthday. I think we’ll spend this holiday on the boat with the pups – Olga has a life jacket now, so she can swim without me worrying she’ll drown. Maybe a barbecue later, maybe a game night. Whatever you’re doing tomorrow, I hope you enjoy yourselves!

On the What I’m Reading Right Now front, I’m working through American Gods, and I have a couple of blog tours coming up. I’m still sort of struggling with my reading slump, but I think it’s more that I don’t have the energy to start a book at this point. Does that make sense?

We also got new appliances this weekend. I’m SOOOO excited to have a functioning dishwasher, and a fridge that’s not from the stone age. Though it was a good fridge, and still doing just fine after 20 years. They certainly don’t make appliances like they used to.
