May Birchbox

I know, I know, I’m late! Everyone has already posted their May boxes, and I’m over here twiddling my thumbs……

This month, Birchbox did something different with their sneak peak, and I have to say, I wasn’t crazy about it. I like the videos where they actually tell you about the products! This video just sorta showed snippets, but it was hard to see the products, and the whole thing felt more commercially than anything else. Oh well, change is good, right?

Speaking of, I’m getting the itch to mess with my Birchbox profile again…..NOOOOOOOO. I’m trying to stay strong. It’s hard.

Anyway, this month’s theme was “Freewheeling.” It was all about taking a playful approach to beauty and trying new things. Kind of the Birchbox mantra, no? Regardless, I loved the cheerful yellow tissue paper.

Miss Jessie’s Original Quick Curls: I was excited to see this in my box, since I’ve heard a ton of great things about the brand. And the sample size was huge!! It says to use a tablespoon amount, and I’d guess that if you did that you’d get at least 3 or 4 uses. I didn’t, because I know my hair well enough to know that that would have been like drowning it. I’ve used maybe half the recommended amount. I’ve gotten 4 uses so far, and the packet is still about half full. I was honestly surprised by this – it works pretty well on my hair. It holds curl, but isn’t crunchy. The only thing I’m not crazy about is that it kinda makes my hair look wet. The smell is slightly strange too – not bad, just strange. When I first used it all I could think of was grapefruit and some sort of nut. It’s grapeseed and chestnut, so I was pretty close! I like it, but still prefer my Davines Sea Spray.

Marcelle BB Cream in Golden Glow: I’m still on the hunt for a BB cream with SPF in it. Sadly, this one doesn’t have it. It’s fairly thick for a BB cream, and has good coverage. The color blends nicely with my skin too. However, after a few hours I noticed it started beading up on my skin. Not my favorite BB cream, but also not the worst. One bonus is that it didn’t make my skin break out.

Color Club Duo Art Pen in Lavender: I’m always happy to see nail polish. What’s fun about this one is that is has a dotting tip and a skinny brush for stripes and lines. I’m not crazy about the color, but it’ll look good with the right base. It’s going to take some practice, but overall, this is fun and a great idea!

CoTZ Face Natural Skin Tone SPF 40: This is supposed to be a complexion-matching sunscreen. I got absolutely nothing from this. It felt greasy, didn’t make my skin look any different, and made my makeup smear. Plus, the sample size was so tiny I thought it was empty. Not my fave.

Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream: I got the Acai Grapefruit, and it smells amazing. I haven’t tried this yet, but I’m looking forward to it. I long ago gave up the gel/foam shaving creams because they’re way too drying. Lotion types are much nicer, so I can’t wait to give this one a go!

In other exciting news, I’m so jealous of everyone’s May Ipsy bags that I re-subscribed. I’m on the wait list, which means there’s no telling when I’ll get one…but the bags seem to have been getting better lately, so I’ve got my fingers crossed the trend continues!

I also need to spend my Birchbox points – I’ve got over 800 of them – and I’m having a heck of a time trying to decide what to get. Something I’ve loved from my boxes, or something new? Decisions, decisions…
